A build order that actually works in Ironhold Commanders
Most of my early losses in Ironhold Commanders came from the same mistake: I built up my army before my economy could support it. The game gives you just enough rope to hang yourself in the first ten minutes, so a clean opening makes everything after easier.
The order that worked for me was economy first, a couple of cheap defensive units second, and only then expansion. It feels slow and a little vulnerable, but it means you're never scraping for resources when a raid hits. By the time rivals come knocking, you can actually afford to respond.
Campaign missions shake this up with their twists, so treat the build order as a default rather than a rule. On timed missions I skipped most of the economy and rushed units, because there's no point banking resources you'll never spend.
The thing I appreciate about Ironhold is that smart timing beats raw spending. You don't need to pour money into it to compete; you need to not waste your early minutes. Once that clicked, the whole game opened up.
